A Message From The Chairman - Hannah Myers

Welcome 2006! There are so many great things happening within Hopkins County
this late winter and early spring that we are welcoming the New Year with hope
and anticipation.
The tornado in November affected many of us and through such a horrific tragedy
new light was shed on words such as: friendship, community and help. These words
rang true amongst us all during this tough time. The town has rebounded and has
continued to move forward, working hard and filled with compassion in bringing
this area back and even better than before. I am truly proud of the community
and all efforts that helped and continue to help rebuild. Hopkins countians responded
and continue to respond in making this “A Great Place to Be”.
The Madisonville-Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce incorporated in 1928 with
160 members and today we have over 530 proud members. The Chamber has already
been busy this year with the annual banquet at Madisonville County Club, the
board retreat and the day to day activities. The banquet was a huge success thanks
to Sierra Duff, Pam Stuart, Sharla Austin-Darnell and Elizabeth Leasure. The
night could not have been any more top-notch and I appreciate their efforts,
as well as all the ambassadors who helped with making the night so special. I
look forward to working more with the ambassadors, who do so much in helping
our community. Hopkins County native, Jim “Curley” Miller gave a
wonderful speech and it was so nice to see how positive Madisonville has been
in his life. The board retreat was also a success and I want to personally thank
each board member who took the day to come and prepare the plan of action for
2006 (located inside newsletter). I realize how time is a premium for all of
us and giving a portion of your day showed your dedication to the community.
The Chamber of Commerce could not be as efficient without the help of so many
dedicated and devoted board members.
The chamber program of action this year looks filled with opportunities for
everyone to become more involved; there is something for everyone.
I would like to thank the staff for their diligence and look forward to working
with Lisa, Nancy and Bev this year. I would also like to thank Barclay McCoy
the Chairman Elect for 2007 and Frank Williams the Past Chairman for their help,
direction and dedication to the Chamber. Finally, as well as, the Plan of Action
projects, I have personally taken special interest in three areas this year.
First, promoting and planning “Wellness” into our community. This
initiative will reduce health care cost within the community while helping us
all become more active and healthy. Next, I would like to continue to organize,
recognize and address relevant public issues that concern this area and update
each of you on the action taken by the community on these issues. Lastly, I am
excited about creating a new energetic committee composed of retired or partially
retired community members to help with different projects throughout the community.
Working together and continually prioritizing our community’s needs,
in all aspects of society will help Madisonville-Hopkins County be a progressive,
competitive community in the future. I am very excited about this year and serving
you as the Chairman of the Chamber. Please remember that it takes everyone to
make Madisonville-Hopkins County a place were we all want to live. Please willingly
volunteer by calling (270) 821-3435 and continue to promote business and community
for Hopkins County through leadership in economic, government, education and
social development.
Sincerely, Hannah Myers
