Madisonville & Hopkins County are located in the heart of Western Kentucky
49 miles south of Evansville, Indiana, 104 miles north west of Nashville,
Tennessee, and 153 miles southwest of Louisville, Kentucky. Madisonville,
the county seat of Hopkins County, is a community with a small town atmosphere
and the amenities of a much larger city. The town is served directly by
the Pennyrile Parkway, US Highway 41 and 41A, and Kentucky highways 70
and 85. It is one half hour from Interstate 24. Commercial Airline service
is available at the Evansville Regional Airport in Evansville Indiana
and in Nashville, Tennessee.
Madisonville and Hopkins County are unique in many positive ways. We
are a community that offers the security and friendliness of a small town
while at the same time we can boast of great:
Recreation
Hopkins County has abundant outdoor recreation opportunities. Natural
and manmade resources allow residents to pursue a variety of activities
including fishing, hunting, boating and golfing. Madisonville, with 480
acres of park land provides year round supervised recreational programs
for all ages. The 185-acre Municipal Park includes a nine-hole golf course,
Olympic size pool, and picnic areas. Two local country clubs sport 18
hole golf courses and the Municipal Park includes a nine-hole golf course.
Supervised baseball leagues, football and basketball teams, and tennis
and golf clinics are also sponsored by the city and local civic groups.
The YMCA complex, a movie theater, roller-skating rink, and bowling alley
are just a few of the indoor recreational opportunities.
Arts
The Glema Mahr Center for the Arts is a 37,000 square foot performing
and visual arts center consisting of 1,061 proscenium main stage theater
which can be converted to a 200 black box theater.
Scenic Downtown Area
Scenic downtown Madisonville boasts brick sidewalks and lamp-lighted streets
that lead to many quaint shops and inviting eateries. This beautiful downtown
area is the product of a community revitalization effort.
